It was 1945, at the end of World War II, when Giovanni Colombo started his business in the galenical laboratory of a pharmacy in Milan.
Everything was lacking and they began producing a line of natural balsamic products based on natural Pumilio Pine essence distilled in the mountains of Trentino Alto Adige: Pumilene.

The three generations that have alternated at the helm of the company since the day of its founding have been able to create and lead one of Italy’s most highly rated pharmaceutical companies.
This has been made possible by blending tradition and modernity through two characteristics that have always been present in every Montefarmaco-branded product: quality and efficacy.

The beginnings
1970
The first step change: production
Other products were developed, such as specialty medicines prescribed and reimbursed by the National Health Service.
So until the 1970s, before the major shift urged by a major economic crisis in the country and the National Health Service, which steered society toward products that were no longer reimbursed and managed directly by pharmacists.
The ISF network was converted into traders by giving birth to direct pharmacy sales and transforming the specialty list into OTC (over-the-counter) products.
This solidified the company’s strong ties with the pharmacy and its ability to enhance the professionalism of the pharmacist as an advisory figure for the health of its customers.

1980s – 1990s
In the heart of the 1980s, dietary supplements marked a new turning point in the pharmaceutical market, and new brands such as Vitalmix (1986) and Lactoflorene (1991) were born in Montefarmaco.
2000
The group at the dawn of a new millennium
The Concept of People’s Wellness becomes the focal point of our strategic development people who choose Montefarmaco branded products.
The company’s growth is supported by continuous innovation and entry into interesting market segments with new brands.
- OTC drugs for healing minor ailments (eye redness and irritation, constipation, cough, sore throat, toothache, cramps).
- Functional Supplements for gut flora balance, functional dyspepsia, cholesterol, cystitis, exhaustion, fatigue, stress, difficulty falling asleep, memory and concentration.
- Medical Device to regain the daily well-being of the eyes, muscles and joints.
- Fragrances for the environment to give a moment of pleasant and passionate remembrance.
- Dermoaffinity cosmetics to contribute to the natural beauty of the body, including in drug and cancer therapy.
The new headquarters in Bollate, in the province of Milan, is inaugurated. A solid and streamlined structure where the company’s sales and marketing activities are still concentrated. The new millennium is also characterized by the high activity of participation and/or acquisitions of developing companies.

Forty Weeks Ltd.
Equity interest in the company Quarantasettimane S.r.l., engaged in the development and marketing of early childhood products.
2012
Dr. Brux Ltd.
Equity interest in Brux S.r.l. a leader in intraoral devices, particularly the Dr.Brux® nighttime anti-bruxism self-shaping bite.
2013
Afom Medical S.r.l.
Acquisition of the pharmaceutical company Afom Medical S.r.l. and acquisition of important brands such as Afomill®, Calmadol®, Intense®
2016
Biogei Cosmetics Ltd.
Equity interest in Biogei Cosmetici S.r.l., a dynamic company at the forefront of the modern cosmetics scene for the creation of formulations and development of customized cosmetic solutions.
2017
The first foreign branch
Opening of Montefarmaco Group’s first foreign subsidiary based in Bucharest, Romania
Equity interest in Suavinex Italia S.r.l., a European leader in the pharmacy light infant care market that has a wide range of innovative, cutting-edge and designer products for moms, dads and toddlers.
2018
Dermophisiologique S.r.l.
Shareholding in the company B-Company, Dermophisiologique S.rl. which confirms and increases Montefarmaco’s social commitment to taking care of people’s wellbeing, including those undergoing drug and cancer therapy, through the distribution of dermoaffin cosmetic products, made in Italy, cutting-edge and designed to meet the highest quality standards.
Establishment of Montefarmaco Holding S.r.l., which takes over the management and coordination of Montefarmaco OTC Spa, UNINOMINAL COMPANY.
2019
Montefarmaco in China
In 2019 Montefarmaco will open two new offices: that of Montefarmaco Holding in the new building on Via IV Novembre in Bollate and, most importantly, the Montefarmaco China office in Shanghai.
